How to play Word Deduction

A small practice goal

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Notice the feedback after each input.

What you need to achieve

Guess the five-letter answer in six attempts. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

The order of play

  1. Enter five letters.
  2. Green marks the correct position; gold marks an available copy elsewhere.
  3. Grey means no matching unused copy.
  4. Use the feedback to solve.

Using the playing area

Type a guess and press Check guess or Enter. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Use one clear input at a time.

A closer look at one example

With APPLE as the answer and ALLEE as the guess, the first A and final E are in the right places. The extra L and E are not both counted as present. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Keep the controls nearby.

Avoid this misunderstanding

Repeated letters do not imply unlimited copies in the answer. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
